IGP hosts week-long series of Lebanon-themed events

This month we acknowledged the incredible efforts of our researchers, collaborators, alumni and citizen scientists in Lebanon, by bringing a series of events to London to discuss the key issues that are currently being discussed.
Joined by a diverse group of individuals, including academics, creative thinkers, artists and entrepreneurs we delved into some critical topics. During the first workshop with Professor Ilan Pappe' (University of Oxford) Dr Fatemeh Sadeghi (IGP, UCL) and others we discussed the politics of decolonisation, and the power of solidarity, particularly in the backdrop of horrific instances of genocide. We explored the concept of ethical scholarship, emphasising the importance of advocating for justice and raising a collective awareness.

In our second workshop, With Prof Nadim Farjallah (Lebanese American University), Marc Ayoub (University of Gallway), Nouhad Awwad (Greenpeace MENA) and others we addressed the challenges and opportunities for a green, affordable and equitable new deal in Lebanon.

Dr Manal Shehabi (University of Oxford) spoke on how to achieve a just energy transition in the MENA region. Her framework stresses the need for creating economic resilience, stronger resource governance,  social dialogue, and policy centred on equality and fairness.

With our Fast Forward 2030 network, we engaged in positive discussions about the transformative power of volunteering, and how it can drive significant social impact, based on the experiences of two youth-based start-ups.

Finally, we opened the art exhibition 'Dont's Stop Drawing: Visual Diaries in Solidarity with Gaza' at the P21 Gallery. The exhibition featured drawings of two talented artists, Mazen Kerbaj and Jana Traboulsi, as their response to the atrocities perpetuated in Gaza.

β€œIn March we celebrated our tenth Anniversary with a series of Lebanon-themed events in London, in collaboration with our Prosperity Co-Laboratory for Lebanon (PROCOL Lebanon). We reflected on many geo-political and social issues affecting us in this historical time in Palestine, Lebanon and the Middle East. They reminded us of the importance of sharing experiences and exchanging knowledge even at the most difficult of times. I would like to thank all the speakers and everyone involved.”
